It makes me laugh when I get the whole ‘you should move about more‘ ‘you should make more eye contact‘ and ‘you should do this & that‘ etc from people, in regards to my live performances, and then I see something like this Elliott Smith live video and the beauty of it blows my mind.
I like to get up on stage and be in my own little bubble, and I love watching performers that do the same (Elliott Smith, Laura Marling etc) because to me it’s like having a glimpse into their own private world.
I’ve been trying lately to be a bit more ‘engaging’ with my performances, but really, what is any less engaging about this? I’m not interested in being all ‘HEY LOOK AT ME’ – there’s nothing wrong with that per se, I just like to be more ‘well this is me, I’m doing my thing here, and you can watch and listen if you like‘.
I’d be interested to hear people’s thoughts on this?
